Velvet Ottomans Australia: Round, Storage & Bench Velvet Ottomans
A little velvet goes a long way. A velvet ottoman adds colour, softness and a touch of glamour to a room, and works hard too: as a footstool, extra seating, a bed-end bench with hidden storage, or a soft centrepiece in front of the sofa.
Our velvet ottomans range from 42cm round ottomans and 44cm stools to 80cm round ottomans on brushed gold bases and 150cm storage benches, in olive, blush, dusty rose, nude, teal, mulberry, navy, black and vintage gold. This guide covers sizes, shapes, colours and care, using the real dimensions of every piece.

Round Velvet Ottomans
Large round velvet ottomans
The Milan Round Velvet Ottoman is our signature piece: 80cm across, 47cm high, upholstered in soft polyester velvet over a timber frame and set on an 8cm brushed gold stainless steel base. Choose Olive or Blush. At this size it works as a soft coffee table alternative, a shared footrest in front of the sofa, or extra seating when guests arrive.
Small round velvet ottomans
The smaller Milan is 45cm across and 47cm high, with the same brushed gold base, in Olive, Black or Navy. Use one as a footstool beside an armchair, a dressing table seat, or a pop of colour in a bedroom corner. A pair either side of a coffee table looks particularly good.
The Luca is a lighter, leggier alternative: 42cm across and 45cm high, in firm polyester velvet over a timber frame, raised on slim metal legs. Choose gold legs for glamour or black legs for a more graphic, modern look, in Olive (gold legs), Olive (black legs), Blush (gold legs), Blush (black legs), Black (gold legs), Black (black legs) or Navy (gold legs). Its open legs make it feel less bulky in small rooms and easy to tuck under a console or dressing table.
Can a round velvet ottoman replace a coffee table?
Yes, an 80cm Milan makes a beautiful soft centrepiece. Velvet isn't a flat, hard surface, so add a large tray for drinks and books, and keep hot or spill-prone items off the fabric.
Velvet Storage Ottomans & Bench Ottomans
Soho velvet storage bench
A panelled top lifts to reveal storage for throws, cushions or shoes. The Soho is 140 × 45 × 46cm, in Nude, Dusty Rose or Teal velvet.
Demi velvet storage bench
Softly curved and panelled, the Demi is 150cm wide with a lift-up lid, in Black, Nude or Olive velvet (150 × 49.5 × 47cm). It also comes in Chocolate, Beige or Butterscotch (150 × 51 × 48cm). Matching Black, Nude or Mulberry Demi stools complete the look.
Celina velvet bench
For a bench without storage, the Celina Bench Ottoman in Vintage Gold Velvet pairs warm gold velvet with slim metal legs and medium-firm seating.
What size ottoman bench suits a queen or king bed?
A queen bed is about 153cm wide and a king about 183cm. A bench a little narrower than the bed looks best: the 140cm Soho suits a queen, while the 150cm Demi and Celina suit a queen or king. Allow about 75 to 90cm to walk around the end of the bed. Pair with a bedhead from our bedhead and ottoman sets.
Velvet Ottomans by Colour
- Pink velvet ottomans: the Milan Round Blush, the Luca Blush, Soho Dusty Rose, and the Soho and Demi in Nude. Blush works beautifully with cream, warm timber and brass.
- Green velvet ottomans: the Milan Round Olive, Milan Small Olive, Luca Olive, Demi Olive and Spencer Moss, plus the blue-green Soho Teal. Olive suits walnut, marble and black accents.
- Black velvet ottomans: the Milan Black, Luca Black, Demi Black Bench and Demi Black Stool. Striking against pale floors and ivory sofas.
- Navy velvet ottomans: the Milan Small Navy and Luca Navy, both on gold.
- Rich jewel tones: the Demi Mulberry Stool and Celina Vintage Gold.
What colour velvet ottoman goes with a grey sofa?
Blush, olive, mulberry or vintage gold add warmth to grey, while black or navy creates a sharper, tailored look.
What colour velvet ottoman goes with a beige or cream sofa?
Olive, teal, black or mulberry give the most contrast. For a softer, tonal room, choose blush or nude.
Velvet Ottomans With Gold Bases
Every Milan velvet ottoman sits on an 8cm brushed gold stainless steel base, and the Luca comes on slim gold legs, both adding a touch of Hollywood Regency glamour. Prefer something cooler? The Luca also comes on black legs. Echo the gold once or twice elsewhere in the room, with a brass lamp or mirror, rather than matching everything. See our Hollywood Regency furniture.
Choosing the Right Velvet Ottoman
Ottoman, footstool, pouffe or bench?
A footstool is mainly for resting your feet; an ottoman is a little larger and can also be a seat or surface; a pouffe is a soft, often legless version; and a bench ottoman is long and narrow, usually for the end of a bed. Our velvet range covers all four uses.
What height should a footstool be?
Aim for the top to sit level with, or a few centimetres below, your sofa or armchair seat. At 45 to 47cm high, our Milan, Luca and Demi ottomans suit most sofas, which typically have seat heights of 42 to 48cm.
How big should an ottoman be in front of a sofa?
For a shared footrest or centrepiece, choose about half to two-thirds of the sofa's length, or an 80cm round. Leave 40 to 45cm between the ottoman and the sofa so you can reach it easily.
Velvet or another fabric?
Choose velvet for colour, sheen and a luxurious feel. For a more relaxed look, compare our linen and bouclé ottomans or our full ottomans range.
Styling Your Velvet Ottoman
- Living room: use an 80cm Milan in front of the sofa with a tray on top, or a pair of Lucas or small Milans beside a coffee table. Pair with velvet armchairs in a complementary colour.
- Bedroom: a Soho or Demi storage bench at the bed end, in a colour that picks up your cushions or bedhead.
- Dressing room: a Luca, Demi stool, small Milan or Spencer stool at the vanity. See more dressing table stools.
- Entrance: a velvet bench gives somewhere to sit while putting on shoes, with storage for hats and bags.
- Layer it: set velvet on a textured designer rug to show off its sheen.
Caring for Velvet Ottomans
- Vacuum gently with a soft upholstery brush, in the direction of the pile.
- Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth; don't rub or soak the fabric.
- Expect some shading: velvet changes tone where the pile is brushed or pressed, which is a natural feature, not a fault. Gently brushing the pile restores it.
- Keep out of strong sun to protect the colour.
- Gold bases: wipe with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Storage ottomans: don't overload the lid or force it closed.
Most of our velvet ottomans are upholstered in 100% polyester velvet, which is soft, holds colour well and is more hard-wearing than traditional cotton velvet.
