Console Tables Australia: Luxury, Designer & Hallway Console Tables

A beautiful console table can turn a forgotten wall into the most interesting part of a room. Our collection brings together luxury and designer console tables for Australian homes: natural marble on hand-forged bases, sculptural timber, fluted drawers, rippled glass and antique gold, from 90cm narrow hallway tables to 2m statement pieces.

Whether you're furnishing a grand entrance, styling behind a sofa or need something slim for a narrow hallway, this guide covers sizes, materials, finishes, styling and care, using the real dimensions of every table in the range.

Console Table Sizes at a Glance

Most of our console tables stand 75 to 81cm high, the same height as a dining or writing table.

Choosing the Right Console Table

What is a console table?

A console table is a long, narrow table designed to sit against a wall, in an entrance hall or behind a sofa. It's shallower than a dining or side table, and is used for display, lighting and everyday essentials like keys and mail. Many also include drawers or a lower shelf.

What size console table do I need?

  • Under 110cm: compact entries, landings and narrow hallways.
  • 110 to 140cm: most entrance halls, living rooms and bedrooms.
  • 140 to 160cm: larger foyers and behind a three-seater sofa.
  • 180cm and over: generous entrance halls, long walls and open-plan rooms.

A good rule is to leave at least 15 to 30cm of wall either side of the table so it doesn't look squeezed.

How deep should a console table be?

Narrow console tables are usually 30 to 35cm deep, which suits hallways and tight entries. Standard consoles are 40 to 45cm deep and give you more room for lamps, styling and drawers. Our Heston Small and Chloe tables are just 30cm deep, while the Ripple, Sorrento and Heston Demilune are 45cm.

What is the standard height of a console table?

Most console tables are 75 to 85cm high. Ours range from 75cm (Monaco) to 81cm (Ripple, Sorrento and Elliot), so check the height if you're placing one behind a sofa or using it as a desk.

Narrow Console Tables for Hallways

Which console tables suit a narrow hallway?

How much space should I leave in a hallway?

Aim for around 90cm of clear walking space. For example, a 120cm-wide hallway with a 30cm-deep console leaves about 90cm. Keep accessories within the tabletop and make sure the table doesn't block doors.

Marble Console Tables

Heston marble console tables

The Heston range pairs a 15mm natural white marble top from Greece with a hand-forged base in matte black or brass. Choose from Small (90 × 30 × 80cm), Medium (140 × 33 × 76cm) and Large (180 × 35 × 76cm): Heston Small Black, Heston Small Brass, Heston Medium Black, Heston Medium Brass, Heston Large Black or Heston Large Brass.

Demilune (half-moon) console tables

A demilune console has a curved, half-moon top that softens a hallway and is easier to walk past. The Heston Demilune Black and Heston Demilune Brass measure 90 × 45 × 76cm with a natural marble top on a hand-forged iron base.

Coloured marble and stone

For colour, the Chloe range sets a 110 × 30cm top on a slim gold frame: Chloe Dusty Jade Marble with green, grey and charcoal veining, Chloe Pink Marble, and the Chloe Stone with a polished crystallised stone top on an antique gold iron base. The Swan Carved White Marble also has a white marble top.

Are marble console tables practical?

Yes, with a little care. Natural marble can etch or stain from acidic liquids like wine, citrus and some cleaners, so wipe spills promptly and use coasters under vases and candles. Every top has its own veining, so no two are the same. Browse all our marble console tables.

Black Console Tables

Black console tables add contrast and definition, especially against pale walls, timber floors and stone.

Style a black console with brass lighting, white or ivory artwork and natural stone objects. See all black console tables.

White Console Tables

White console tables bring lightness to Hamptons, coastal and modern homes.

Timber & Oak Console Tables

Which timber console tables do you offer?

  • Zenith Oak: a hand-carved, chiselled timber top on dark architectural plinth legs (160 × 35 × 76.5cm).
  • Radcliff Oak: softly rounded edges in Radcliff Oak Natural or black (140 × 33 × 76cm), suitable for commercial use.
  • Arch White: solid mango wood in a white stain.
  • Cassidy Black: solid acacia with a curved top.
  • Cooper Antique Gold: ribbed ashwood veneer with brushed antique gold handles.

Timber brings warmth and grain variation, and ties a console to timber floors, dining tables and woven furniture.

Gold Console Tables

Gold and brass finishes suit Hollywood Regency, Art Deco and glamorous modern interiors.

Gold pairs well with white, black, walnut and marble. Shop gold console tables, or see our Hollywood Regency furniture and Art Deco furniture collections.

Console Tables with Drawers

If your console needs to hide keys, chargers and mail, choose one with drawers:

  • Adele Black or Adele White: fluted drawers on full-extension metal runners and a lower shelf.
  • Ripple: fluted drawers on extendable runners plus a lower shelf, in 140cm or 200cm.
  • Sorrento: three shaker-style drawers and a lower shelf, 200cm.
  • Cooper Antique Gold: two drawers, each rated to 10kg.

Hand-Carved & Sculptural Console Tables

Some consoles are as much sculpture as furniture. The Swan Carved White Marble and Swan Carved Smoke feature intricately hand-carved swans beneath a white marble top (110 × 45 × 80cm). The Zenith Oak takes a contemporary approach with a chiselled top, and the Monaco range stands on sculptural fluted pedestals. Place these where they can be seen from several angles and keep styling minimal so the craftsmanship shows.

Where to Use a Console Table

Entrance hall console tables

For a compact entry, choose 90 to 120cm; for a larger foyer, 140 to 180cm makes a stronger focal point. Add a mirror above, a lamp and a bowl for keys.

Console tables behind a sofa

Choose a console at or just below the height of the sofa back and about two-thirds to three-quarters of the sofa's length. It defines the seating area in an open-plan room and gives you a spot for lamps and books. The 160cm Monaco Large and Zenith suit most three-seaters.

Can a console table be used as a desk?

Yes, if it has a working height of around 75cm, a top at least 40cm deep and clear legroom. Tables with lower shelves or a central base aren't ideal for seated work, while open designs like the Monaco suit occasional laptop use. Read our guide: How to Style a Console Table as a Desk.

How to Style a Console Table

  • Mirror or art: choose a piece about two-thirds to three-quarters of the console's width. See our wall mirrors and wall art.
  • Lighting: add height with one statement lamp or a matching pair. Browse table lamps.
  • Objects: layer a bowl, a vase and a sculptural piece at different heights from our decorative objects.
  • Something living: fresh flowers or greenery soften the arrangement.
  • Negative space: leave part of the top clear so the table itself is on show.

Caring for Your Console Table

  • Marble and stone: wipe spills promptly, use coasters and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
  • Timber: dust regularly, clean with a slightly damp cloth and keep out of direct sun and moisture.
  • Painted finishes: wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • Glass and metal: use non-abrasive cleaners that won't mark gold or brass finishes.
  • Safety: larger consoles are heavy (the Heston Large is 63kg and the Ripple Large 58.5kg). Safety anchors are included with many of our tables; use them, especially in homes with children.
