How to do Coastal Style
Whether you live by the ocean or just dream about sea breezes, there’s nothing quite like a place on the coast sporting crisp whites, airy spaces and waterside natural elements flowing throughout your home. Adding seascape wall art, coastal coral décor combined with blue nautical touches, the outside beauty of the coast can flow effortlessly into your abode creating your own little coastal paradise.
The Entry Way
The entry of a home serves a far larger purpose than just a place to hang a coat and toss a stack of mail. It introduces visitors to your house and tells a little bit about what they will find inside.
Displaying blue and white elements in the entryway and using natural timbers with a hallway table or exhibiting a beautiful seascape wall art is an ideal start for an entryway.
The combination of a stunning crisp white console table or buffet cabinet in the entryway looks fabulous, especially where an abstract coastal artwork is placed directly above the console (or buffet). This will visually anchor the console to the wall. Using oversized artwork will command attention and coordinate with other elements throughout the room. Below the Guild Console Table is styled with a selection of shapely natural pieces designed to convey a natural easy look.
The Living Room
Living rooms may be the favourite space for decorating, and quite often the living room is the place for relaxation and where much time is spent. Transforming a living room into a space that will spark the imagination and exude the natural elements of a coastal setting can be a challenge.
Starting with a crisp white paint finish in a low sheen and with natural timber floor boards is often ideal. As seen above rugs in a blue and white design reflect seaside elements, however, natural rugs particularly jute rugs work superbly in a coastal setting.
Sofas can be white or beige and other neutral colours but light blue sofa in a slipcover design will also look fabulous.
Bringing eclectic pieces together to cultivate a living room that feels extra homey and yet exudes the coastal look and feel is a popular choice. Try rattan and wicker furniture for seating, and adding coffee tables and console tables in white timber and also adding white marble elements can work very well.
